Carbon peak and carbon neutral targets for the construction industry are in the ascendant
TIME:2021-09-13 10:55:43 FONT:[ BIGMIDDLESMALL ]
At present, almost all industries are doing in-depth research on carbon peak and carbon neutrality. The construction industry is a key field of carbon emission reduction, attracting much attention from all parties. How can the construction industry reduce carbon emissions? Recently, many experts and representatives of entrepreneurs have been talking about it, and some localities have also issued implementation plans for carbon peak action in the construction sector.

Jiang Yi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at tsinghua University's School of Architecture, said that according to preliminary estimates, the roof area of buildings in China's rural areas has reached 27.3 billion square meters, and it is conservatively estimated that 2 billion kilowatt hours of photovoltaic power can be installed, and the annual electricity generation could reach 2.95 trillion kilowatt hours, accounting for 23% of China's total electricity in the future. In urban construction, it is estimated that the developable rooftop pv capacity of urban buildings in China is 830 million KWH, and the annual electricity generation can reach 1.23 trillion KWH, which can meet 30% to 40% of the electricity consumption of urban buildings themselves. "Therefore, the introduction of new rural energy systems with rooftop pv as the core in a wide range of rural areas can greatly contribute to the realization of carbon peak and carbon neutrality."

Wang Yuanfeng, director of the Center for Carbon Neutral Technology and Strategy at Beijing Jiaotong University, made a similar point. He sees future buildings not only as structures for people to live and work in, but also as "a power plant". Photovoltaic panels and wind turbines are placed on the building to generate electricity for the building itself, and excess electricity is fed into the grid. Energy Internet, combined with Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, big data and other technologies, can monitor and analyze energy production and consumption of buildings at different times, and conduct intelligent regulation during use to avoid unnecessary waste.

In terms of local practice, Yichang, Hubei province, has released the Implementation Plan of Carbon peak Action in The construction field of Yichang (2021-2030), making it one of the earliest cities in China to release the implementation plan of carbon peak action in the construction field. According to the plan, Yichang will mainly take "eight measures" to promote industrial energy structure adjustment, promote the green transformation of the construction industry. Specifically, it includes improving energy efficiency of new buildings, high-quality development of green buildings, implementing green renovation of existing buildings, accelerating the application of renewable energy in buildings, promoting the application of green building materials, vigorously implementing green construction, improving building operation and management, and promoting energy conservation in rural buildings. In addition, Yichang also vigorously advocates the citizens to accelerate the formation of green low-carbon production and life style, reduce building energy consumption.

According to Tang Yuan, former director of the Department of Industry, Transport and trade under The Research Office of the State Council, there are two main ways to achieve the "dual carbon target" : one is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and the other is to absorb carbon dioxide from the air. For the second path, he believes that the development of three-dimensional garden housing is a powerful measure. "Three-dimensional garden housing is equivalent to the villa built into the air, set carbon sink room, health room and courtyard house in one, if the large-scale construction of three-dimensional garden housing in the city, the block high-rise carbon absorption oxygen, adjust the climate, purify the air, eliminate the 'heat island effect', the city will be from the 'matchbox' cement jungle into green forest.

Of course, in helping to achieve the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutral, the coordinated development of the industrial chain is very important. Carbon reduction may increase additional costs for enterprises. If the industrial chain between different enterprises cannot develop in a coordinated way, it is easy to see the phenomenon of "bad money driving out good money". In this context, it is necessary to design a more detailed carbon peak and carbon neutralization roadmap and formulate effective incentive and constraint mechanisms.

It is gratifying that in the field of construction, many enterprises in the industry chain, such as building materials, construction and real estate, attach great importance to carbon peak and carbon neutrality. According to Meng Wei, head of China Merchants Shekou Urban Research Institute, the company has launched a series of carbon reduction measures. For example, to promote the application of prefabricated buildings and prefabricated hardwear, the construction process will reduce carbon emissions by 50%; Using new energy-saving technologies, commercial offices, parks and hotels will reduce carbon emissions by 20%; Gradually increase the use of green and clean energy; Promote intelligent construction of architecture and application of digital scientific and technological achievements; Establish a green supplier management system, implement the lowest total cost of the whole life cycle bidding procurement model.

"Over the past decade, key industries such as real estate have played a good role in driving the development of green buildings. Next, we should play a similar role in the realization of the dual carbon goal and seize the opportunity of green leadership to further make our company bigger and stronger." So said Huang Junpeng, general manager of Beijing Lemon Tree Green Building Technology Co., LTD., which researches green development strategy.

In his opinion, with practical actions to help achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality, major enterprises should rebuild their core competitiveness from six aspects: first, access to capital, which can expand financing channels; Second, land acquisition can enhance the competitiveness of land acquisition; Third, the planning and design link, integration of green technology to create core products; Fourth, the construction link, through the management of carbon quota, reduce the environmental risk of the supply chain; Fifth, the sales link of products can attract high-value customers, and the new generation of buyers pay more attention to the low-carbon and environmental protection of products; The sixth is to hold the operation link, through carbon emissions trading profit. "Major enterprises should establish a carbon asset management system as soon as possible to truly understand the value of carbon, which will become the core competitiveness of future business operations."
